A two-year project to support regional scientific networking in the Caucasus was launched on June 1, 2015. The project “Supporting Sustainable Mountain Development in the Caucasus (Sustainable Caucasus)” brings together researchers from scientific institutions in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Iran, Russian Federation, and Turkey.

It focuses on network development, fostering academic excellence in sustainable mountain development curricula, young scholar promotion, and strengthening the interface between scientists, policy makers, and practitioners. The project also organized a regional conference, the Caucasus Mountain Forum, in 2016. Sustainable Caucasus is supported by SCOPES, a joint program of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation.
