The Caucasus Network for Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions (SUSTAINABLE CAUCASUS) is an independent non-entrepreneurial (non-commercial) legal entity based on membership and the status of its members and registered in accordance with the legislation of Georgia. The organization was founded in August 2014 and its mission is to facilitate cooperation and coordination among different interested parties for the purpose of sustainable development of the Caucasus mountain regions.

The organization’s mission is to promote cooperation, coordination and advocacy in support of sustainable development of the Caucasus ecoregion and beyond.

To achieve its mission, SUSTAINABLE CAUCASUS will cooperate with local and central authorities, scientific circles, business, non-governmental and international organizations, local communities/ population, and other parties concerned with the sustainable development of the Caucasus mountain regions.

SUSTAINABLE CAUCASUS is a network and its membership rules and regulations are described under the Memorandum of Understanding.

SUSTAINABLE CAUCASUS believes in working together for positively influencing equitable and sustainable development of the Caucasus Region, supporting dialogue between the network/members, respecting the inherent worth and dignity of all people and the rights that follow from this understanding, striving to create a shared voice, working together in a manner that enables the achievement of the shared goals and values.

CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP

SUSTAINABLE CAUCASUS member party1 should have:

Working experience in relevant to Sustainable Caucasus mission and objectives field for at least 2 years (Motivation should be provided for exceptional cases);

Clear target group(s) identified;

Clear programmatic work/strategy including stakeholder engagement and networking activities;

Confirmable physical existence (including website, office space and equipment);

A potential member should demonstrate:

non-discrimination, equal treatment and equal rights policy;

respect for cultural and ethnic diversity, the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity, internationally recognized borders, human rights and fundamental freedoms, and the rule of law;

application of rules of transparency, openness and predictability, proportionality and mutual recognition*.

* Note: recorded violation of the principals as mentioned above might become a ground for exclusion for the SUSTAINABLE CAUCASUS Network
