Scientific Network for the Caucasus Mountain Region (SNC-mt)

Jul 2014

In collaboration with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), the University of Geneva as well as leading universities and scientific institutes of the Caucasus countries, a “Scientific Network for the Caucasus Mountain Regions” (SNC)-mt was established in July 2014.

The main goal of this initiative is the definition of a common vision of a scientific network of various institutions and stakeholders working on the Caucasus mountain region drawing on the experiences in other mountain regions such as the Carpathians (Science for the Carpathians Network, S4C), the Balkan Mountains and Dinaric Arc (South Eastern European Mountain Research Network, SEEmore), the Alps (International Scientific Committee on Research in the Alps, ISCAR) as well as the Mountain Research Initiative (MRI) Europe.

SNC-mt is organised as an open network of researchers and other stakeholders interested in disciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research and collaboration, building research capacity in the Caucasus region and linking research to the needs of sustainable development and environmental protection in the region.

Sustainable Caucasus currently hosts the SNC-mt Coordination Unit that will support the further establishment and expanding of the network.
