Goergian Initaitive Group Fifth Meeting
Georgian Initiative Group's fifth meeting took place on June 3, 2022, bringing together the scientists and practitioners at the Ilia State University.
National Initiative Group of Georgia (NIG Georgia) is an alliance comprised of scientific, civil, and private organizations interested and working among others in the fields of Disaster Risk Management (DRM), Climate Change Adaptation (CCA), and Sustainable Mountain Development (SMD).
One of the purposes of the meeting was to present and summarize the main work and activities carried out in the field of advocacy and cooperation since the last meeting of the National Initiative Group in Georgia.
Group members discussed the feedback on the policy brief developed by the Sustainable Caucasus on the necessity of introducing sustainable pasture management in Georgia, in particular, it was outlined that the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture fully shared the recommendations and opinions outlined in the policy brief sent by NIG Georgia and suggested NIG members have their representatives in the working group for developing National Policy for Sustainable Pasture Management. As a result, NIG Georgia has two representatives in the aforementioned group.
The next session was devoted to the presentation of a new member organization of the NIG “Fair Trees Fund” Georgia, they introduced members with their work and activities.
The meeting also covered the discussions about the topic of the next policy brief that will be related to the Cultural Heritage issues and decided to father develop the document.
In the end, participants discussed the new initiatives for cooperation in strengthening advocacy and the future plans and tasks of the National Initiative Group.
NIG Georgia was established in terms of the project Strengthening the Climate Adaptation Capacities in the South Caucasus (SCAC) implemented by the Caucasus Network for Sustainable Development of Mountain Regions (Sustainable Caucasus) with the financial support from the Swiss Co-operation office South Caucasus.
