Sustainable Caucasus team members visit Tusheti Protected Areas to collect the best climate adaptation solutions.
In partnership with UNEP Sustainable Caucasus is implementing SDC's funded global programme "Adaptation at Altitude: Taking Action in the Mountains" in the South Caucasus region.  The program's overall objective is to increase knowledge on climate change and appropriate adaptation solutions in the mountains and feed it into science-policy platforms for informed decision-making in national, regional, and global policy processes that will increase mountain communities'  and ecosystems' resilience to climate change.
One of the main activities of the project was to collect the best climate adaptation solutions in mountain regions in three of the South Caucasus countries and select the three best solutions from each country.
The Integrated Erosion Control (IEC) under the "Integrated Biodiversity Management, South Caucasus" (IBiS) project was selected as one the best case for Georgia (2016-2019).
The Project was implemented in Tusheti PAs by the The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH country team in cooperation with international and national experts and local partners. IBiS contributed to biodiversity conservation through intensive studies, rehabilitation of degraded areas, defining proper management tools, and the protection of natural resources from human-induced erosion processes.
Sustainable Caucasus team members accompanied by GIZ Georgia Country office staff visited the project site to speak with the local beneficiaries, and take testimonials that will be shared on the https://www.weadapt.org website as the best climate adaptation solution from Georgia.
