Sustainable Caucasus relies on a small team of committed staff that operates across the Caucasus region from its office in Tbilisi, Georgia. With its contacts and partners in other countries of the region and further afield and an internationally representative board, Sustainable Caucasus draws from the expertise of many skilled individuals in the design and implementation of its activities.


Nina Shatberashvili, Executive Director, has a background as an architect and restoration specialist. She has 20 years of experience in sustainable development, climate change and environmental governance project management in the countries of the Caucasus, with a special focus on the mountain areas of the region. She has been a board member of the Sustainable Caucasus for five years and is currently a Ph.D. student at Ilia State University.


Armen Gevorgyan, Armenia Country Representative, holds a master’s degree in engineering and geography and is a senior environmental policy, governance, and natural resources management, specialist. He has over 30 years of academic and practical experience in the integrated management, planning, and restoration of mountain ecosystems. He is experienced in project design, identification, appraisal, coordination, monitoring and supervision of different donors and international organisations with a special focus on intersectoral, transboundary, and regional cooperation with a science-based, inter-and trans-disciplinary approach.


Fuad Bagirov, Azerbaijan Country Representative, holds a Ph.D. in technical science and also has a master’s degree in economics. He has in-depth experience in project monitoring and evaluation, including for the EU, elaboration of project fiches and strategies, market research, training needs assessment and planning, administrative and local government reform promotion, establishing public-private partnerships, SME development, institutional and capacity building, civil society programme evaluation, statistical analysis and more.

Mary Kate Ugrekhelidze, Higher Education and Scientific Coordination Officer has gained experience as a programme associate at Sustainable Caucasus as well as researcher and lecturer teaching ecosystem and environmental management and economics courses at Ilia State University. During her professional career as an environmental specialist, Mary Kate has been involved in a wide range of projects and assignments as an assistant, expert, or coordinator. She is currently a Ph.D. student and junior researcher at the University of Bonn. 


Sophiko Lomineishvili, Projects Officer, holds a Master’s degree in International Affairs with a special concentration on climate change and governance from New York City University. She is responsible for working on sustainable development projects. Her professional focus is on the climate change impact on the cross-sectorial economy with 7+ years of well-rounded expertise on climate policy, environmental discipline, and international project management. She has worked in UN in New York where she actively attended the 2nd committee. During her tenure at the local government, she was selected for the fellowship program and studied Energy Efficiency Use and Planning in Sweden. She is currently managing projects and fundraising issues in the South Caucasus region at the Sustainable Caucasus.


Levan Pavlenishvili, Economic Affairs Expert holds an MSc degree in Operational Research from the University of Edinburgh and MA in Economics from the International School of Economics at Tbilisi State University. Levan has more than 7 years of experience in public policy consulting, especially in conducting, training and coaching Regulatory Impact Assessment (RIA) processes. Levan also teaches economics disciplines in different Georgian Universities, including courses such as cost-benefit analysis. Levan's research interests lie in mathematical modeling of public policy processes, he is also interested in the electricity sector and modeling of power markets. 


Megi Shubalidze, Programme Associate holds a bachelor’s degree in international business and sustainability from the University of Roehampton. She has been actively involved in volunteering and teaching programs, concentrated on environmental studies in Asia. Currently, Megi is doing masters in “Environmental management and policy” at the Georgian Institute of Public Affairs (GIPA). 


Nino Gvianishvili, Public Outreach Officer, has 17 years of experience in the field of internal and external communications and public relations. She brings expertise in brand development, writing, project management, web architecture, social media, digital media, and event management. During her professional career, she has served in the public, private, and educational sectors. As a public relations consultant, she was extensively involved in the improvement of public awareness and enhancement of organizational participation in reform processes in the country. She has extensive experience in strategic media briefings, facilitation of journalist training, management of advertising campaigns, and implementing campaign projects for public awareness-raising. She has worked on several environmental projects funded by various international donors.


Ana Abulashvili, the Administrative Assistant, holds a master’s in public administration and has more than eight years of experience in administrative work. Her expertise includes local government, public policy analysis, and non-formal education for youth development.


Tamar Ioseliani, Financial Manager and Accountant, has a master’s degree in business and economics from Tbilisi State University. She has 12 years of working experience as an accountant, financial manager, and tax manager for various businesses focused on architecture, tourism, international trade, music festivals, design and print, etc. During these years, she has gained invaluable in-depth experience and familiarity with financial management, accounting, and corporate culture.
